The United States justified their Standing since Favorites by staging a fightback against Great Britain and Ireland to retain the Walker Cup.

Scotland’s Sandy Scott enjoyed a fantastic 4 & 3 win over the previously unbeaten Brandon Wu but defeats for Thomas Plumb, Euan Walker, Caolan Rafferty, Harry Hall, Conor Purcell along with Alex Fitzpatrick condemned the house side to conquer.
The prior victory away from house came in 2007 with a team which included future winners Dustin Johnson and Webb Simpson along with PGA Tour winners Rickie Fowler, Billy Horschel, Kyle Stanley and Chris Kirk.
Danny Willett and rory McIlroy were one of the Great Britain and Ireland team which lost at Royal County Down by a stage.
The Walker Cup had seemed set for a climax after the US decreased their deficit in the foursomes of Sunday morning.
Fantastic Britain and Ireland won only one of the foursomes courtesy of Plumb and Tom Sloman, that beat world # 1 Cole Hammer and Steven Fisk 4 & 4.
Walker and Scott fought back from two down with four holes to play with halve their match with Andy Ogletree along with John Augenstein, however Fitzpatrick and Purcell dropped 1 & 2 to 2 Wu and Alex Smalley and Conor Gough and Hall were beaten 2 & 3 by Stewart Hagestad and Akshay Bhatia.
That left the home side needing five points from the day’s 10 singles games to recover the trophy.
Though Sloman had recuperated to lead Fisk fitzpatrick had raised home hopes by moving up two on Salinda to drop the next 3 holes in series.
As he wrapped up a 3 or 4 victory over Wu, but at the same time John Pak sealed a 2 & 1 victory against Walker, scott made birdies on the 12th and 14th.
The home side slender hopes were resting on England’s Gough along with Ireland’s Rafferty and Gough getting back into a square against Ogletree after 13.
Rafferty was not able to complete the comeback along with also his defeat, coupled to Hagestad with Hall’s 5 3 loss supposed the United States were two points from success.
Hammer provided the first of those having a 5 & 6 loaf of Purcell and Augenstein.
