Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham says that his mother was reduced to tears from the abuse he received after the Uefa Super Cup final.
Abraham missed the crucial penalty in the shootout to give Liverpool success in Istanbul and was subjected to abuse on networking.
“I remember speaking to my mum, she was psychological, she was in tears,” 21-year-old Abraham told CNN.
A Chelsea spokesman said the club had been”disgusted” with the”abhorrent” posts.
Back in August, Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian maintained out Abraham’s spot-kick to secure a 5-4 shootout victory after it had ended 2-2 following extra-time.
Abraham, who has scored four times in Chelsea’s previous two matches, included:”It is obviously not nice, seeing your kid getting abused. My mom just thought,’He ?’
“For me personally, I’m a strong character, it does not affect me , but it might influence people who do not possess my character.
“I was sat in the living area straight after the game and went on my phone. I wasn’t going to shy away from the circumstance, though I did have some messages that are encouraging. The other side isn’t nice to hear.
“I went through a lot of emotion following the penalty miss. I had experience of taking penalties last season. Penalties are missed by everyone. To overlook the punishment… I was devastated and I had a lot of abuse ”
Abraham, who’s made two international appearances for England, praised the assistance he has received from his club, his team-mates and his supervisor.
“Frank Lampard consistently had his arm around my shoulder lifting me up, the boys also, it was like I never missed the way they supported me and lifted me up – that is precisely what I wanted,” added Abraham.
