Oxted lands Portland pot

If Oxted came with a rattle that was late to win the William Hill Portland at Doncaster cieren Fallon landed the handicap of This Afternoon on Saturdays.

On the back of winning the Old Borough Cup at Haydock last weekend To Study, this time it was about to speed 5 and a half furlongs’ space within.
Fallon, boy of six-times champion jockey Kieren, is on the verge of being crowned champion apprentice this year and seems to have a future.
A Momentofmadness made a bid to win under William Buick for the next year in a row, but Fallon countered his challenge to perfection the 14-1 chance trained by Roger Teal, who’d returned to shape when last time out.
Oxted came clear to win by A Momentofmadness by a comfy half-length, using Display Stealer third party.
Fallon said:”We jumped nicely, we chose a wonderful guide and that I pulled him out and he looked lovely. He was really unlucky and finished second at Newmarket, therefore that we were always confident going into the race. If he got a nice clear run, we knew he would be thereabouts.
“It’s brilliant, this is what it’s about, the huge days in this way on TV, and I’m lucky to be on a horse like this can take me to the race”
Teal stated:”He’s a beautiful horse. I trained his mom (Charlotte Rosina), she was a nice sprint mare. Clearly the boys put her into Mayson and he is the result.
“We constantly think he wants soft earth because his mom adored soft ground, but all his very best kind is on the top of the floor for some reason.
“We came with high hopes, I was reading the stats and three-year-olds’ve a bad rep in this race, and so that I was panicking then. But no, fair play, he has put it correctly.”
