Michael Chiesa’s Lawsuit Against Conor McGregor Revealed
The UFC 223 bus incident is not in the rear-view mirror only yet for Conor McGregor. The Irish celebrity was sued by Michael Chiesa after he had been hurt in the dolly-throwing incident back in UFC 223, and now we have details of the litigation. TMZ was the first to examine the details of the litigation in a movie which you can watch at the conclusion of this article.
According to the TMZ report, Chiesa is claiming that the UFC 223 dolly incident was a publicity stunt on the part of McGregor, and now Chiesa desires all McGregor’s profits from his mega struggle against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229. According to the litigation, the”Son of Sam” law in New York applies to this incident, where someone convicted of a crime can’t utilize that crime to profit. According to the lawsuit, Chiesa believes McGregor profited in the UFC 223 episode, partially because it attracted more attention to him and the card, and also because the UFC used footage of the bus attack to promote the McGregor vs. Nurmagomedov fight at UFC 229. Keep in mind that the UFC 229 pay-per-view was the biggest selling PPV the UFC has ever done, so McGregor made countless dollars for that fight, and Chiesa needs a piece of the pie.
Will Chiesa’s suit succeed? Who knows now, and it’s possible this is eventually settled out of court. But obviously Chiesa was granted legal advice to take this as much as he can go and he will try and make some cash off of it, and it’s hard to blame him considering he was legally hurt in the bus attack. So far, fans and press have laughed off Chiesa’s lawsuit. But everybody needs to recall Chiesa obtained facial cuts at the bus attack that forced him off the card. He later fought at UFC 226 and dropped by submssion to Anthony Pettis, and he must feel like he got the raw end of the deal. Chiesa is next scheduled to confront Carlos Condit at the UFC 232 card, but with this lawsuit in your mind you need to wonder if it is going to change him.
As for McGregor, he is still dealing with the Nevada Athletic Commission in regards to the UFC 229 episode where Nurmagomedov jumped over the fence. It has been rumored McGregor plans to fight in MMA again in 2019, but till we see what sort of sanction he will get for UFC 229 it is hard to say exactly when he will compete again, and contrary to who. The bus attack clearly didn’t hurt McGregor’s inventory as far as it hurt a number of the other fighters daily, including Rose Namajunas, who says the bus attack mentally scarred her and that hasn’t fought since UFC 223. While McGregor has made countless since then, other fighters who day such as Ray Borg were severely affected by the episode, and it is difficult to blame people who were hurt from the attack to try and sue McGregor and determine what happens in the courts.
