David Luiz believes Arsenal can”struggle” to the Premier League title this year and says that the team is advancing under head coach Unai Emery.
Arsenal have finished runners-up just twice since then and have not won the league since their unbeaten 2003-04 effort under boss Arsene Wenger.
However, Brazil Luiz – who joined the Gunners from Chelsea – believes the present team has what it takes to end that barren run.
“For me, should you start anything, then we have just started the Premier League and each of the competitions, even if you do not think you can win the contest then you definitely certainly won’t begin anything on life,” Luiz informed NBC Sports.
“I wish to win titles with Arsenal. I wish adapt and to enhance myself as a club, to Arsenal’s style and the manager wants us to play. I think we could do that.
“My vision, my ambition and my will is always to struggle for the title and between the club, the players and the trainer, we’ve got the chance to fight for the title. I think this club deserves to shine again.”
Arsenal are third in the table.
However, in spite of losing only once so far this term, Emery’s side have been criticised for conceding 11 goals in eight games.
“We talk about this with each and every club, Arsenal is no different,” Luiz additional.
“I think Unai is working very nicely with the strategy to defend and then the strategy to attack. I say, defending starts and through the group, and you’ll be able to see the goalkeeper is currently like a Number 6.
“We are going to try and improve, we are already doing well and the last few games have demonstrated that we’re more powerful in a defensive manner. I want this club to enhance in every portion of the match.
“I think we’ve started very well and we only lost one game in the Premier League. I believe that the team is improving and we are in third in the table we wish to finish this year fighting for the title.”
