All systems go for Siskin in Middle Park Stakes

Ger Lyons feels the decision this month, to adhere to six furlongs using Siskin in the Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket will be the one for his unbeaten colt.
Lyons admitted the Goffs Vincent O’Brien National Stakes was something but decided to follow his guns in the view that the six furlongs is the optimum distance for Siskin race.
The Middle Park, sponsored by proprietor Khalid Abdullah’s Juddmonte Farms, gives Siskin the chance to shoot his 100 per cent record to five and also follow up his Group One victory at the Keeneland Phoenix Stakes.
“It was my call,” that the County Meath handler told journaling TV.
“He even did a breeze over seven – he has run twice and won four times around six, such as a Group One, and for me he is definitely the best over six in the moment.
“I said to Colin (Keane), I believe it was a week ago Saturday, we’d breeze him over seven. It was very apparent to me that going seven wasn’t the right thing, although he worked nicely. Why go past six at the moment when he is definitely the best around in the six.
“If there wasn’t the Middle Park in just two weeks’ time I’d have turned up (from the National Stakes). We were not running. There’s an option in 2 weeks’ time and it’s a Group One.
“I must place my horse where he could win his race.
“I am not saying he couldn’t have won (the National Stakes). My target was that the Middle Park.
“I would really like to run from the Vincent O’Brien (National Stakes). It’s here on my door step, however the best target is the Middle Park and when we breezed him I said,’right my mind is made up’.
“I made one telephone call to say in my view this horse should proceed to the Middle Park. ‘Proper – amazing, perfect, excellent fortune’. I thought that was easy.
“As we talk we are on target for the Middle Park. It’s a long way, a fortnight is a long time for a racehorse, but touch wood this horse has not let us down and I’m awaiting Newmarket.”
Lyons is at taking at Newmarket, headed by the Mums Tipple excited.
“He’s rated higher than minebut we have a Group One in the bag and deliver it around,” he said.
